Principal's Newsletter: 08/09/2026

Happy Sunday, Bexley HS Families!

Although much of the information in this week's newsletter is a repeat of last week, there are several new and important back to school details included below. Hopefully you are getting your ParentSquare accounts set up. Once in your account, you can decide how and when you would like messages delivered, including by text message or email, as well as in the app.

We look forward to welcoming our Freshmen on Thursday, and our Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors on Friday.

-- Students will be able to view their schedules in PowerSchool starting on Monday, August 10 at 10AM.

-- All 9th grade students and those who are attending Bexley City Schools for the first time

will start school on Thursday, August 13. The day will include a welcome from our HS mentors in

the morning and a condensed class schedule in the afternoon. All students, grades 9-12, should attend beginning Friday, August 14.

-- School supplies that will be needed will be shared by individual teachers during the first few days of school. There are many combinations of classes that students may take, with different supplies needed for each so there is no set supply list by grade.

-- Picture day will be Thursday, August 20 during lunch and study hall in the Schottenstein Theater at BHS. Picture Retake Day is Thursday, October 8 during lunch and study hall in the High School Library at BHS.

--Remaining Senior portraits dates are Tuesday, September 1, 2026 during the school day in the High School Theater, or Monday, October 19, 2026 during the school day in the High School Library. Senior portraits are a different photograph than the portraits that are used for PowerSchool thumbnails. Your portrait photos are formal and will be used for the yearbook photo.

As in the past, seniors who would have otherwise had a study hall scheduled during 1st, 3rd, 5th, or 8th period, will be scheduled for late arrival or early release (shows as "Off Campus" on schedule). If there are any seniors who prefer to have study hall, they should see their counselor. Seniors must remain in good standing to keep their late arrival/early release status. This means:

• A GPA of at least 3.25 from the previous quarter
• Accumulation of less than 20 hours of absences from previous quarter, minus absences that do not count towards chronic absenteeism 
• Accumulation of 6 or fewer tardies from the previous quarter
• On track to graduate in May 2027

Juniors who have a study hall during 1st, 3rd, 5th, or 8th period will be considered approximately halfway through 1st quarter. More information will come as we get closer to that point.

As part of our commitment to keeping all students safe and healthy, this is a friendly reminder to submit your child's updated immunization records to your student’s health office if you haven't done so already. 

All Kindergarten, 7th grade, and 12th grade students should be prepared to submit immunization records with their updated immunization doses/dates. 

Ohio law requires all students attending public schools to be up to date on immunizations. Records must be submitted prior to September 1, 2026. If records are not received prior to or on September 1, 2026, your child may be excluded from school until immunizations are up to date.

If your student(s) is missing required immunizations, you can schedule an appointment with their primary care provider, local pharmacy, or Franklin County Public Health. 

As questions or concerns come up during the school year, you may wonder who to contact for assistance. If the question is academic about a specific class, your first contact should be the teacher.

Being present will continue to be a focus this year at BHS. This includes:

• Being at school on time, in every class each day, and ready to engage in classes. Missing just 10% of instruction, about 2 days per month, puts students at risk academically but also jeopardizes their social, emotional, and physical health.
• In alignment with state law, HS students will not have access to their personal devices from 8:35am to 3:24pm except during the lunch period. This means students must power off and place cell phones, smart watches, wireless headphones, and any other non-school issued electronic device in either a back pack or classroom storage during class periods, passing periods, restroom trips, and study halls.

If students are eating lunch on campus, the three areas that HS students will be able to eat are in the cafeteria, the front lawn, and second floor HS hallways. Other areas will be off limits unless supervised by a staff member.

The cost of school meals are:

• Breakfast: $2.65*
• High School Lunch: $3.95
• Adult Lunch: $4.95

*Note! The district’s universal free breakfast program will be offered again this coming school year. Students must purchase a complete breakfast in order to receive it at no cost. 

Application Open for Assistance with Cost of School Meals

Families in need of assistance with the cost of school meals are encouraged to apply for free meals. The USDA’s eligibility requirements for free or reduced-price school meals are income-based, and families must apply for assistance each school year.

It’s important to note that Bexley Schools provide free school meals to any student whose family is eligible for reduced-price meals.

Freshmen Parent Meeting

August 10, 6pm, Schottenstein Theater (HS Main Entrance)

Bexley High School Staff will welcome parents, discuss the transition to high school, and answer any questions. This meeting is for parents only. Students will learn all of the important information during their orientation day on Thursday, August 13.

Seniors College Info Night for Seniors and Parents

August 20, 6pm, Schottenstein Theater (HS Main Entrance)

This event is for high school seniors and their parents. It focuses on tasks to be completed during the FALL of senior year regarding submitting college applications as a Bexley High School student. The event will detail how to organize the college application process and what needs to be done and how to get it done. Bring a calendar and a pen or pencil to take notes.

HS Curriculum Night

August 26, 6-8pm

This event is for all parents with students in grades 9-12. Parents will follow their student’s schedule and have the opportunity to meet their student’s teachers and gain valuable information about their classes.

Financial Aid Information Night

September 17, 6pm, Schottenstein Theater

This event is for Senior students and parents. The presenter is a financial aid officer who will explain the FAFSA submission process and its impact on college cost. The CSS Profile will also be discussed.

Season Sport Passes – HomeTown Ticketing

We are excited to introduce new season passes for the 2026–2027 school year! Season passes will be available for purchase through HomeTown Ticketing and are available now. See Season Passes Information This provides an easy and convenient way for families and fans to support our student-athletes all year long.

FinalForms Registration

Parents or guardians of any student interested in participating in a school sport must first register via FinalForms. This will notify coaches of your student’s interest and allow you to receive notifications about the upcoming season. Register your account online

Please be sure to log in and verify that all forms are completed and signed before the appropriate sports season begins.

Required Physicals

All student-athletes must have a current physical on file in order to participate in any sport. Physicals are valid for one year from the exam date. The OHSAA pre-participation physical evaluation form must be used. Access the required form online Please upload the completed physical to FinalForms or submit it to the athletic office.

Pay-to-Participate Fees

Participation fees will be assigned once teams are finalized. Families will receive notification through FinalForms or ParentSquare with payment instructions and payments can be made online or through the athletic office. Fees must be paid prior to the first official contest or by the communicated deadline.

Bexley Schools value educational experiences outside of the classroom. We encourage and welcome all students to engage in activities and believe financial need should not be a barrier to full participation. If your family is in need of support, please contact an administrator or school counselor for additional information.

Our bell schedule is the same as last year and is posted below.

Teachers and departments are available to work with students from 7:35 - 8:20 a.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Students are encouraged to use this support time to meet with teachers regarding homework questions, review for assessments, re-teaching of course material, or as a place to work and ask questions as needed.
