Bexley Schools Superintendent Dr. Jason Fine announced today that he is departing the district later this summer.

“It is with great pride in all of the successes we achieved together, and with a heavy heart, that I share my pending departure from Bexley City Schools,” Dr. Fine shared with faculty and staff earlier this afternoon. “I have accepted an appointment to serve as the next superintendent of New Albany-Plain Local Schools.”

Dr. Fine has led Bexley City Schools for the past five years, having assumed superintendence of the district in July 2021. He will remain with Bexley Schools until July 31.

“The future is truly bright in Bexley Schools, and I am appreciative of the meaningful relationships developed with members of this vibrant school community,” he told staff and families of the district. In addition, he thanked the Bexley faculty and staff for the “immeasurable work” they do to support students. “I am incredibly proud of the progress and the many, many successes of our students and our faculty and staff over the past five years.”

The superintendent cited the development of the district’s unique, community-driven Strategic Plan that was completed in 2023, as well as Bexley’s District Facilities Plan, approved in 2025, as highlights of his tenure.

“Seeing you bring those plans to life, living our mission and values, and encouraging our students to reach farther than they believed possible are achievements worth celebrating by everyone in our schools,” he told staff.

Board President Joanne Pickrell offered the following message to the district’s faculty and staff, and to families:

The Board of Education extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Fine for his outstanding commitment to our students, faculty, and staff over the last five years. We deeply appreciate his leadership and the foundation of excellence he has established, which leaves our district in a position of strength. Because of our district’s achievements, we believe Bexley Schools will be highly attractive to top-tier talent. We are committed to selecting a new superintendent to lead us forward by the start of the 2026-2027 school year and will share further details regarding the search process in the coming days.

Members of the Bexley Board of Education will meet in the near future to establish a search process and timeline to find the next leader of Bexley Schools.
