Report an Absence

The faculty and leaders of Bexley City Schools strongly encourage regular school attendance for all students.

Robust student learning requires continuity of instruction, classroom participation in educational experiences and regular study, in order to maximize education opportunities for each student.

Frequent absences of students from regular classroom learning experiences disrupt their instructional process and the benefit of regular classroom instruction is lost and cannot be entirely regained, even by extra after-school instruction. Consequently, many students who miss school frequently experience great difficulty in achieving the maximum benefits of schooling.

We know, however, that student absences may be necessary at times. Please follow our procedures for notifying schools of a student absence. You may contact your child’s school using the contact information on this page.

Parent/Guardian Verification of Absences

Board Policy requires every student who misses any school to present written communication from a parent/guardian, or a parent/guardian must call the school attendance office to verify that the student will be or has been absent due to specific reasons related to excused absences, such as a personal illness.

Each student who is absent must immediately, upon returning to school, make arrangements with their teacher(s) to make up work missed. Each case is considered on its merits by the principal and the respective teacher(s).
